Golden Plume is an evergreen shrub that grows 0.8-1.5 m
tall. Flowers are cream to pale yellow and tubular. The
inflorescence consists of several flowers surrounded by a dense
clump of yellow, hair-like bracts and sepals, 10 cm long. Inflorescence
is a thyrse (the youngest flowers being at the top of the inflorescence
axis). Opposite leaves are ovate to lanceshaped with entire or wavy leaf
margin, with pinnate venation is clearly visible. Leaves are stalked,
measuring 8-18.5 cm long and 2.7-8 cm wide, base wedge-shaped
to heart-shaped, rarely rounded; tip pointed to narrowed; smooth
surface. Young stems are nearly square, smooth or slightly hairy. Fruits
are capsules, measuring 1.2-1.5 cm long and contain only a
few seeds. The native range of this species is SE Colombia.
